BECOMING A DOULA

​I am always grateful to support families during this transformative time. It brings me so much joy to support birth when those giving birth feel confident and supported. To help new parents find confidence in their choices is such a gift. It does not feel like work when you love what you do.

My journey to becoming a birth and postpartum doula like most things in life was not a direct one. I came to work as a Doula after the birth of my daughters. I was very fortunate to have two positive prenatal and birth experiences where I felt deeply supported throughout. And yet as I shared my positive experience with friends and family I realized that the large majority felt the opposite.  The stories of fear, lack of support, misinformation, unwanted intervention and an over all feeling of discontentment surrounding pregnancy and birth shocked me. Learning that so many people I know and love felt such lack of support turned to into action as I got to work looking into ways I could help. A theme quickly emerged, supporting the mother was the key to a more positive birth experience. All which lead me to the role of a Doula. 

In 2018 I completed my training to become a certified Birth Doula followed by the completion of my training and certification as a Postpartum Doula. I continue to add to my practice as a Birth and Postpartum Doula by educating myself and taking courses completing my Breastfeeding Certification in 2020 along with the guidance of a mentor, founder of Awakening the Village, Sasha Padron who has been working as a Doula for over 25 years . I am blessed to have a supportive family and community championing me on as I continue my passion and work supporting others.

I am continually inspired by the miracle our bodies perform.  I will never take for granted what a gift it is to support parents during this deeply personal time as they transition into parenthood and find so much joy in empowering them every step of the way.
